WOODZ tops Genie Music’s monthly chart with ‘Drowning’ while serving in the military
Singer WOODZ claimed the top spot on Genie Music’s May monthly chart while fulfilling his mandatory military service.
According to Genie Music’s announcement on the 28th, WOODZ’s self-composed song “Drowning” ranked No. 1 on the monthly chart.
“Drowning” was released in April 2023 and began gaining renewed attention after a live performance on KBS’s “Immortal Songs” in October last year. The track went on to top the daily chart for 24 consecutive days and continued climbing, ultimately reaching No. 1 on the monthly chart. It is considered the first reverse-charting No. 1 song of the year.
Coming in second was Jennie’s solo title track “like JENNIE,” released in March as part of her first solo album.
10CM’s “To You” secured third place. The track shares its name with a Japanese anime and became a trend through social media song challenges.
Also included in the top ranks were JOZZZ’s “Do You Know Me” at fourth, G-DRAGON’s “TOO BAD” at fifth, and HWANG GARAM’s “I Am a Firefly” at sixth. aespa’s “Whiplash,” G-DRAGON’s “HOME SWEET HOME,” IVE’s “REBEL HEART,” and DAY6’s “HAPPY” also entered the TOP10.
A representative from KT Genie Music stated, “‘Drowning’ stands out for rising from the 200s to the No. 1 spot through reverse momentum,” adding, “Seven of the TOP10 tracks are by male artists, and the popularity spans various genres such as rock, dance, and ballads.” <저작권자 ⓒ 코인리더스 무단전재 및 재배포 금지>
