FT Ireland's Choi Min-hwan, Yul-hee battle over divorce grounds...both sides claim different things

FT Island's Choi Min-hwan and Laboom's Yul-hee are continuing to spar over the reasons for their divorce. The controversy has intensified as Choi Min-hwan, whose image has been tarnished by revelations about Yul-hee's involvement in a brothel, has fired back.

Choi Min-hwan and Yul-hee began dating in 2017 and officially married the following year. The couple, who have three children together, divorced in December of last year. After the divorce, Choi Min-hwan took custody of their children.

Yul-hee recently revealed the reason for the divorce on her YouTube channel, claiming that Choi Min-hwan had visited a brothel during their marriage. She also released a recording of a phone call with a man she believed to be a brothel owner. Following Yul-hee's revelations, Choi Min-hwan was forced to suspend all media activities due to suspicions of prostitution. However, police closed the investigation on March 29, citing insufficient evidence to charge him with violating the Sex Trafficking Act.

In response, Choi Min-hwan spoke to the Dispatch on March 13 to refute the allegations. He pointed to Yul-hee's frequent runaways and unusual lifestyle as the main reasons for the divorce, saying, "She neglected to raise their children. Her lifestyle of playing at night and sleeping during the day caused a crisis in the marriage." He also claimed that Yul-hee ran away from home more than 20 times due to arguments, which Yul-hee herself admitted to."

Choi Min-hwan acknowledged that his visits to entertainment venues were a second source of conflict, saying that he had asked Yul-hee for forgiveness and reconciled with her. However, he emphasized that Yul-hee's behavior was the decisive factor that led to the breakdown of the marriage."

The Dispatch reports that in October of last year, Yul-hee took to her YouTube channel to expose Choi Min Hwan's visit to the brothel, claiming that he was responsible for the divorce. Yul-hee then overturned the divorce agreement and demanded 100 million won in alimony and 1 billion won in property division, along with custody of their children and child support until they reach adulthood."

The controversy over the reasons for the divorce is expected to continue as Choi Min Hwan and Yul-hee continue to battle over the revelations. With conflicting claims from both sides, it will be interesting to see how the legal battle and public opinion will develop in the future.
