'2024 MBC Drama Awards' Confirmed for January 5 Broadcast
The postponed award was scheduled for Dec. 30, but the live broadcast was canceled due to the Jeju Air passenger plane crash at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do. The recording went ahead as scheduled at the time, and the broadcast was rescheduled after the national mourning period ended.
This year's nominees for the grand prize include Kim Nam-joo ("Wonderful World"), Kim Hee-sun ("Bitter Sweet Hell"), Byun Yo-han ("Black Out"), Yoo Yeon-seok ("When the Phone Rings"), Lee Jae-hoon ("Chief Detective 1958"), Lee Hae-pyun ("Knight Flower"), and Han Seok-kyu ("Doubt"). All of them are also nominated for Drama of the Year.
Meanwhile, the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster occurred on Dec. 29 last year when Flight 7C2216 from Bangkok, Thailand, collided with the outer runway wall during landing at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do. The crash killed 179 of the 181 people on board, prompting the government to declare Muan a special disaster area and declare a national mourning period until Jan. 4.
The possibility of rescheduling the 2024 MBC Entertainment Awards to the Lunar New Year holiday period has been raised, but nothing has been finalized yet. <저작권자 ⓒ 코인리더스 무단전재 및 재배포 금지>
