IU Receives Billboard's Highest Recognition...'Global No. 1 Artist Series' in Korea

Singer and actress IU gained global attention when she was selected to represent South Korea in Billboard's Global No. 1 Artist Series in the United States.

"IU is irreplaceable," Billboard said in an article published on Aug. 18, praising her versatility. "There are many people who excel in various fields - popular idols, accomplished musicians, great actors, smooth hosts of entertainment programs - but IU is the only one who can play all of these roles at the same time," Billboard said."

Specifically for her achievements in music, Billboard said, "IU is an artist who is beloved by all generations, and her musical accomplishments and performances are a testament to that."

Billboard also highlighted IU's 2024 music charts and world tour performance. "IU's new single 'Love Wins All' debuted at No. 1 on the Melon Top 100 upon its release, and has since gone on to achieve incredible records, including four consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the weekly and monthly charts and 339 Ichart Perfect All-Kills," the magazine said.

With 31 concerts in 12 countries, mobilizing an audience of about 500,000 people, she completed the largest world tour ever for a Korean female solo singer," he said, adding, "She also set a unique record as the first female singer to enter the Seoul World Cup Stadium and the first female singer to perform in all of Korea's large stadiums."

In response, IU told Billboard, "I'm still unfamiliar with the words global, Billboard, and number one, but I'm honored and excited."
