IU cleared of plagiarism allegations...wins lawsuit against damages
The Seoul Central District Court Civil 29th Division accepted IU's claim for damages worth about 30 million won against A at a sentencing hearing for the damages lawsuit held on Monday.
In May last year, Mr. A filed a lawsuit claiming that some of IU's hit songs, including "Good Day," "Pink God," "Beep Beep," and "Celebrity," infringed his copyright, but it was found that IU did not have direct creative participation in most of the songs. In particular, it was confirmed that IU participated in some of the compositions of "Celebrity," while "Beep Beep" was only produced. As a result, both the public and the police found Mr. A's allegations to be unfounded. The police dismissed the complaint in August last year.
Afterward, IU took legal action against Ms. A, claiming damages of approximately 30 million won. However, as the identity of Mr. A was not confirmed, the trial was based on evidence submitted by the plaintiff.
The court ruled in favor of IU, explaining that it "made a judgment based on the plaintiff's arguments and evidence." With this ruling, IU has been cleared of the plagiarism allegations and is now free from the controversy. <저작권자 ⓒ 코인리더스 무단전재 및 재배포 금지>
