IU and Byun Woo-seok to be on the new romance K-drama

Kakao Entertainment announced today that "IU and Byun Woo-seok have been confirmed as the lead roles in MBC's new drama '21st Century Dae-gun's Wife' (unofficial title)." The new drama is expected to feature a unique setting and charming characters."

"21st Century Daegun's Wife" is set in modern Korea, a country with a constitutional monarchy. It is a romance drama about a female lead who comes from a chaebol family but faces barriers due to her commoner status, and a male lead who is the son of a king but is not free due to his status, and finds love beyond his status. It was selected from the MBC Drama Script Contest and will be produced by MBC and Kakao Entertainment."

The production will be co-produced by MBC and Kakao Entertainment.

IU plays the role of Sung Hee Joo, the second daughter of a top chaebol family. She is the perfect character, with gorgeous looks, intelligence, and a competitive spirit that refuses to lose to anyone. However, her status as a "commoner" becomes an unexpected stumbling block, and she becomes entangled with Ian Dae-gun.

Byun Woo-seok plays Ian Dae-gun, the king's second son. On the surface, he seems to have everything, but he is doomed to never be able to make anything his own except his royal status. When he meets Sung Hee-ju, he reveals his true self and changes."

'21st Century Daegun's Wife' is scheduled to air in the second half of 2025. The unique setting of a constitutional monarchy and the chemistry between the star actors are highly anticipated.
