Online trolls targeted at BTS get fines, settle - no sentencing

Defamers of the group BTS have been sentenced to fines.

"The fine punishment of the defendants who were sent to the prosecutor's office for insult and defamation in the last complaint has been finalized," the company Big Hit Music said on Tuesday.

The defendants are users of Naver, Daily Best, Natepan, and Fem Korea, and in some cases, the defendants were sentenced to the maximum number of fines for each offense because they repeatedly posted similar malicious posts and comments over a long period of time."

"We are also awaiting the outcome of the police investigation and are doing our best to ensure that the defendants who have been sent to the prosecutor's office are severely punished," BigHit said, adding that it will stick to a hardline response without any settlement or good behavior plan.

BigHit Music has regularly taken legal action against malicious posters of defamatory, insulting, sexual harassment, falsehoods, and malicious slander against BTS. This quarter, through fan reports and our own monitoring, we collected evidence of numerous malicious posts on multiple platforms, including Daily Best, Dish Inside, Duckoo, Fem Korea, and Instiz, and filed complaints with law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, BIGHIT Music said, "The first trial for damages for illegal acts such as defamation, which was announced in the previous announcement, has been held, and the subsequent proceedings are continuing diligently. We are also actively responding through investigative agencies and relevant government agencies to ensure that the suspects who illegally acquired and leaked the artists' personal information are punished."
