The wedding, which was originally scheduled for September, is believed to be in the aftermath of an accident at the Bucheon Psychiatric Hospital, where Yang Jae-woong is the director, in which a patient died 17 days after being hospitalized, according to the Korea Times on Wednesday.
On May 27, a female patient in her 30s, who was admitted to the hospital to treat an addiction to diet pills containing narcotics, died in the hospital 17 days after being admitted. The incident was reported two months after the patient's death.
"Regarding the incident that occurred during the hospitalization process at Wjin Hospital, I and all medical staff members cannot hide our devastated feelings, and we sincerely apologize to the bereaved family members who are grieving the loss of the deceased and their families," Yang Jae-woong said after the incident became public. "Not only the hospital director, but all medical staff members will cooperate with the ongoing investigation to the fullest extent possible and will fulfill their responsibilities according to their medical and legal judgment."
However, there are allegations that the patient complained of abdominal pain the day before his death, but was isolated and restrained without proper treatment, and that his "vital signs" were not properly checked. The family sued six medical staff members, including the hospital's president, on charges of involuntary manslaughter and negligent homicide.
After the incident, Yang's behavior was widely criticized. In particular, many were angered by the timing of the wedding announcement, which came four days after the accident. The controversy raised the possibility of postponing the wedding. The couple remained tight-lipped, saying it was a private matter, but on March 3, they announced that the wedding was postponed. <저작권자 ⓒ 코인리더스 무단전재 및 재배포 금지>
